Candidate Bios
Jeremy Allen
After over twenty years running a gardening business, I am passionate about protecting Little Compton’s fragile clay soil. I have seen both the positive and negative consequences which result from the different uses of town land, and I am running to ensure that every effort is made to preserve our unique landscape. I currently serve on the Little Compton Tree Committee and on the Oasis committee, which maintains an all-native garden in the courtyard of Wilbur-McMahon School. As Town Council Member, I will be committed to protecting the farms and fields of Little Compton.
Anya Rader Wallack
I was born and raised in rural Vermont and moved to Little Compton 21 years ago. I called it “Vermont by the ocean,” and fell in love with the landscape and the small-scale community, which felt like home. My late husband and I got married here and raised our son (now 19) here.
I am running for Town Council because I care about this town and how it is governed, and I want to do my part to keep it well-governed. I want LC to be safe, beautiful, accessible and affordable, for those of us who live here and for visitors who show respect for our rules and our natural resources.
I was raised to be aware of government and its power to improve lives (or not). My career has been mostly in State Government, in Vermont and Rhode Island. Here in Rhode Island, I have served as the State’s Medicaid Director, Health Insurance Exchange Director and Acting Secretary of Health and Human Services. In those jobs I have seen the power of government to improve lives, but also have understood what it means to manage taxpayer dollars and to be accountable to the voters. I hope to bring that experience to bear on a town council that is transparent and responds to the needs of the community for sensible policy and funding.
Nicole Barnard
I worked as a teacher in high-need schools in New York City and Boston before becoming a lawyer. I have worked as an attorney for RI Council 94 for the last 4 years representing 1800 workers across the State of Rhode Island. I am running for Little Compton Town Council because I want to be involved in the decision-making in our town. My daughter Sophie goes to Wilbur McMahon School, and I want to see the School's ratings improve. The roads need repairs, and Little Compton needs more safe recreational opportunities for all. As your Town Council Member, I will work hard to bring these changes to our town.
Andrew Moore
As your Town Council Member since 2018, I have worked to make Town Hall efficient, transparent, and accessible to all citizens of Little Compton. I grew up spending summers in Little Compton and became a year-round resident in 2009. I devote much of my time to public service as a regular volunteer for the LC Historical Society and for the LC Garden club, and as a board-member of the LC Community Center. I hope to continue to serve the Town for another term.
Patrick McHugh
Little Compton has been my home for my entire life. My wife Jennifer and I raised two sons here, and I have served as coach for numerous sports teams, as Chair of the Recreation Committee, and as Chair of the School Committee. I graduated from Bishop Stang High School and from Rhode Island College, and I am now a self-employed business owner. I am proud to have been Chair of the Recreation Committee when we upgraded and expanded the Town’s recreation facilities. I would bring to the Town Council a deep love for this town and an understanding of how to get things done to make it an even better place to live and raise a family.
Hannah Ayotte
I was fortunate to be educated in the Little Compton school system. I received a tremendous amount of individualized attention and was able to build strong relationships with my teachers and classmates. This environment granted me the skills to succeed at Portsmouth High School and UMass- Dartmouth, where I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science. I am running for School Committee to ensure that students in Little Compton are afforded the same excellent education that I received. As a recent graduate, I will bring a fresh and current perspective on the educational needs of all our students.
Travis Auty
I’m running for LCSC to ensure there is a continued dialog and an open forum of ideas for parents, teachers, and students. Collectively we need to discuss the challenges and solutions we face as a community as we navigate the 21st Century and the opportunities it presents. We want our children to not just be good stewards to our community but strong global citizens. I will be an ally to our teachers, a voice for our parents, and a champion for our children.
